Post-harvest Unit

Post-harvest Unit’s mission is to conduct research and development to facilitate a reduction in post-harvest losses and maintenance of the quality of perishable produce in Trinidad and Tobago, and thereby improve the efficiency of Agricultural Production and Marketing System for both the domestic and export markets.

Planned Research Projects

• Collaborative work with multi-disciplinary commodity projects on quality characterization of minor fruits and vegetables.
• Studies on the storage of fresh-cut product to extend shelf-life.
• Development of video production towards increasing awareness of appropriate post-harvest technologies.
• To set-up and assess appropriate cost effective post-harvest cool storage facility model for farmers.
