The Praedial Larceny Squad (PLS) recovers$120,000 worth of stolen animals in Carlsen Field
July 24th, 2023:- The Praedial Larceny Squad (PLS) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries recovered $120,000 worth of stolen animals in Carlsen Field hours after they were reported missing.
On Wednesday, 19th July, 2023, a 65 year old farmer of Carlsen Field, Chaguanas secured his animals and retired to bed. However, on Thursday morning, the farmer noticed that the barbwire fence surrounding his premises was broken, and several animals were missing. He reported that nine (9) of his Cattle were missing; six (6) adult Holstein pregnant Cows, each valued at $12,000.00; one (1) adult Zebu Bull, valued at $14,000.00 and two (2) heifers, each valued at $8,000.00.
A joint task force consisting of officers from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) and Praedial Larceny Squad (PLS) coordinated extensive foot and mobile searches of the entire Carlsen Field District for the stolen animals. At Around 5:00 pm on Thursday, all nine (9) animals were recovered in a remote area in Carlsen Field, approximately 500 meters east of their Pasture.
Senator the Honourable Kazim Hosein, Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, praised the efforts of the PLS, saying they continue to work diligently to protect the farming community. “Officers of this squad continue to display their commitment to the farming community. I wish to commend the officers on their hard work and diligence. I want to reassure the PLS and members of the agricultural sector, that the Ministry is working assiduously to bolster and strengthen this squad.”
Minister Hosein also commended the TTPS on its continued support of the PLS, saying, “Collaboration will enhance the success rate of all investigations.”
