Fisheries and Maritime Training

 

History

The Caribbean Fisheries Training and Development Institute (CFTDI) is a statutory agency established by Act 59 of 1975. The Institute is a key partner of the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries which serves as the training arm of the Fisheries Division. Training programmes are uniquely structured with maritime and seafood technology courses that are tailored to suit the needs of a range of fisheries and related stakeholders as well as educational agencies. The CFTDI plays a substantive role in the development of fishing communities and certification of fishers to operate at-sea. Maritime courses are accredited in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (CSTCW 95) and include Basic Safety Training, Seaman Class II, and Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft, Medical First Aid and Advanced Fire Fighting.
