As we collectively prepare to set the conditions for food security, it is critical for the Caribbean nations to "take in front", as we say, and implement proper strategies and arrangements to ensure that we mitigate its negative impact. It is within this context that the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago has embraced the highley regarded "Jagdeo Initiative" endorsing the creation of the Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Authority.
Conceptually, the authority promises to be a venture that will ensure regional Food and Nutritiion Security through the promotion of a sustainable regional agricultural sector.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Marine Resources hosted the National Agricultural Entrepreneur Awards Ceremony on Friday 9th October at the Hilton Trinidad and Conference Centre. The competition was established to encourage and honour those who have made significant contributions to the nation's Agricultural sector. Senator the Honourable Arnold Piggot, Minister of Agriculture, Land and Marine Resources delivered the feature address and praised the men and women who remain committed to providing quality food for this nation and their increased efforts at supplying food in bountiful quantities.
World Food Day is celebrated every year on the 16th of October by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations to encourage attention to agricultural food production."Achieving Food Security in times of crisis" was selected as the theme for the 2009 celebration.
The Ministry of Agriculture, land and Marine Resources Marked this year's celebration with a Breakfast Meeting on Friday 16th October and hosted an Exposition on Tuesday 20th October.
